Premiered on 26th December 1895 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London
Choreography: William Thompson
Music: James Kemp
History
Original Production
The Pas des Chasseresses was originally choreographed by William Thompson in 1895. It was choreographed for the Drury Lane Pantomime of that year, Cinderella. The pas occurred during the ball scene as part of a series of acts put on by the King and Queen for the guests.
The pas was not composed by Péchard (who was composing the music for most, if not all, of Thompson’s additions by 1895) but was composed by a young new composer, James Kemp, who had recently finished his studies at the Royal College of Music in the summer of 1895. A notable feature of the pas is the quotation of Sullivan’s The Mikado in the danseuse’s variation, a revival of which had opened at the Savoy Theatre on the 6th November 1895.
